Modern materials have radically improved the durability and quality of helmet shells, thereby better protecting the skull from injury, but only providing limited improvement in concussion safety. Reducing concussions requires the ability to slow down a solid, the brain, being accelerated by an impact through a liquid, brain fluid, striking the interior of the skull causing brain trauma.
